Ne dit Jamais Jamais

Although I am old enough to know better, there are some things I never expected to do. Take yesterday for example. I found myself visiting a friend here on the island, sitting on the porch and eating homemade beef jerky.
BEEF JERKY. In public. In my mouth.
That was never a part of my sixteen year old dreams. I'd envisioned myself, in a garret in Manhattan ( do they have garrets in NYC?) typing furiously, cigarette smoke curling above my head as the pages piled up beside me. A glass of bourbon next to my elbow. Maybe some crusty bread and stinky, runny cheese. Beef jerky was not on the plate.

Of course I also never planned on having an Arkansas Marine, who grew up with a rodeo cowboy father and a REAL Marlboro man for an uncle as my friend. I was thinking more Bob Dylan, Dorothy Parker type people.

Kind of makes me wonder will happen next.
